I've just returned from the October Representative Council meeting (aka "rep council"), where the local was represented by 1st Vice President Gerard O'Neill and 2nd Vice President David Mastin. I attend as a member of the provincial executive. Rep Council is composed of the provincial executive and the presidents from all ETFO locals, as well as additional representatives depending on the size of the local. This makes it a great opportunity to meet other presidents and learn what is going on in their local and with their school board. Rep Council takes place three times per year - October, February and May - and is responsible for a variety of "jobs", such as:
- reviewing the proposed annual budget and election campaign procedures;
- approving collective bargaining goals;
- recommending policy to the Executive or the Annual Meeting;
- recommending action motions to the Executive;
- as well as electing Council members to some of ETFO's committees.
I'm pleased to report that Gerard was re-elected this morning to the Council Steering Committee (they organize the Rep Council meetings) and David was elected to the Selection Committee for Standing Committees (responsible for placing members on all the ETFO standing committees). Congratulations to Gerard and Dave on their election!!
Stay tuned... tomorrow's post will be about REPORT CARDS and some important changes coming out of the Ministry of Education for next September. Until then, have a great evening!
