If you are thinking of retiring and daily occasional teaching is a part of that plan, be advised that the DDSB is not currently accepting any new additions to the occasional teacher roster. This includes soon-to-be retirees. This is a common agreement between district school boards and occasional teacher locals as it ensures that an appropriate amount of work is available to those who are already on the occasional teacher list. For those who hold sought-after specialist qualifications, such as FSL, the Board has accepted new members to the list in the recent past, but only following a formal application and interview process.
